Are you tired of all the auto insurance advertisements on the television and radio saying they can save you 20% on car insurance? Many of the ad's are very entertaining and I too like to watch them for a quick laugh!! But what are the insurance companies trying to tell us? If you are to call one carrier and save 20%, does that mean you can call another carrier and save another 20%? It can seem quite confusing. In a nutshell, here is what is happening. In the auto insurance industry, some carriers are spending billions of dollars on advertisements that basically tell you that you need to call them to save money. The answer here is that yes, you may save premium on the initial new business rate but what happens at renewal? See, the insurance companies must file rates with the insurance commissioner in two ways. 1st they do a new business rate and then they must file a renewal rate. This is in most states. At renewal, the rate can be different, not based on your driving record, but rather on the same variables/information you gave them at the beginning. Also, the insurance advisor that is quoting you it typically not interested in your best interest so often times they are selling you coverages that are less then what you should be purchasing.***For example: A client with 3 cars and 1 youthful driver may call an 1-800 number and get a rate for the state minimum liability limits in Colorado of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. Of course this will save the client premium because they are currently carrying $100,000/$300,000. The client may not know that this change in coverage could impact their lives if they were to get in an accident. What if $25,000 is not enough coverage for the person you just hit in a car accident? Will they likely sue you for more damages? The best approach is to stick with an insurance advisor. I recommend an independent agent as they offer multiple insurnace companies rather then the typical "Captive" agent that offers you one carrier. Another idea is to review the auto and home insurance policies every 2 years. In many instances, you can save premium by having your local independent insurance agent compare with other companies. Dont get caught up on accident free discounts or longevity discounts. Yes they help but what if the insurance company you have is so un-competetive that the discount you recieve for these items is still much higher then what you can get with another carrier?***Simply stated, give a local independent insurance agent a call and they can walk you through the coverages, premiums and the carriers.www.rickclineagency.comwww.affordableamericaninsurance.com
